Entry from: Rome, Italy Entry Title: "THE COLUSEUM" Entry: "This morning we decide to sit with our feet up and then head out after lunch to see to Collosseum. Now here it was busy when we arrived just after 1. We went to the Forum (Palatine) just past the arch on the left side. No line up here where there is a long line inside the Collosseum to get tickets and they are good for both entrances. Walk back to the Coliseum and go to the line for ticket holders and walk right in. It is another incredible structure and the excitement still remains that it was here the gladiators met in mortal combat and condemned prisoners fought off hungry lions. This great structure still exerts a powerful hold on everyone here today. We sit down on a garden border to figure out exactly where we are and I notice a Chinese man is taking Len's picture. Len looks up and the man looks back, we smile and he comes back and takes several more pictures of us. I guess we are part of what he is looking for on his holiday. It was built in 79 AD on top of Nero's Domus Aurea complex. They held games lasting 100 days and nights to mark it's opening, during which some 5000 animals were slaughtered. This mark was later toppled when a 117 day killing spree involving 9000 gladiators and 10000 animals took place. It seated 50,00people and ...
